Michelle Rice

Michelle Rice joined Terry & Roberts in 2020, focusing her practice on divorce, child custody, and all other aspects of family law. Michelle was born and raised in Borger, Texas and has practiced law in Texas for over seven years.

She graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, cum laude. During college, her academic performance led to her selection as a Regents’ Scholar, a recipient of the A&M Club Leadership Award, and as a College of Liberal Arts Distinguished Student. In addition, she was selected for membership in Sigma Alpha Lambda, a national leadership and honors organization with 70 chapters across the country.

She then earned her Juris Doctorate from University of Houston Law Center. During law school, Michelle won the Mark Vela Award for Best Paper in Criminal Law for her paper entitled, “What is the Cost of Change? How Holder’s Charging Policy Extends Prosecutorial Discretion.” She was also the Vice President of External Affairs for the Association of Women in Law and Vice President of the American Constitutional Society. In addition to her training in law school, she completed Texas Criminal Trial College as put on by the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

Her legal career began while still a student, as she served as an Intern with the Federal Public Defender, Children’s Assessment Center, and Harris County Public Defender’s Office. In addition, she served as a Law Clerk with Bires, Schaffer, and DeBorde before being selected as a Graduate Fellow with Lone Star Legal Aid. After school, Michelle worked as an Assistant Public Defender for Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid and then as an Associate Attorney at a local Brazoria County law firm for four years.

After her time working in criminal law, she knew she wanted to pursue a legal career helping children and families through the complex and emotionally trying situations that come up in family court. Her strong work ethic and life experience help her understand her clients in ways many lawyers cannot.
